According to the data shown in the Congressional Budget Office‘s latest The Budget and Economic Outlook: From 2019 to 2029, there are $15.8 trillion US federal debt held by the public at the end of 2018.

The CBO estimate that the federal government is projected to borrow another $13.0 trillion from the end of 2018 through 2029, boosting debt held by the public to almost $29 trillion, or 93 percent of GDP, by the end of 2029.

Of the $15.8 trillion in federal debt held by the public at the end of 2018, 60 percent was held by US investors and 40 percent was held by foreign investors.

The largest U.S. holders of Treasury debt as of June 30, 2018 are individual households, holding 17 percent; the Federal Reserve came second, owning 15 percent, and mutual funds own 12 percent; investors in China and Japan have the largest foreign holdings of Treasury securities, together accounting for 14 percent of U.S. public debt.
